Ascending B'schießer and Ponten from Schattwald

Start by taking the Wannenjochbahn chairlift to the ‘Jochstadl’ (you have the option of hiking up too, if you prefer). From here, you hike along the first section of the ‘Schmugglerweg’ before descending into an open, grassy valley that follows the ‘Zipfelsbach’ (which is a stream).

With the stream now on your right and as the ‘Zipfelasalpe’ comes into view below, you will take a sharp left and begin the ascent to the summit of B’Schießer at 2,000m.

From this point, you will descend sharply and then continue along the ridge until reaching the summit of Ponten at 2,048m. There are a few exposed areas around summit itself, but the views are fantastic.

The route deviates slightly from the ridge at this point and zigzags sharply down until levelling out again as you walk in the direction of ‘Zirleseck’.

After reaching the ‘Bergwacht-Hütte’ (a cabin), you drop down into the valley on the left. Those who might want to bag another summit have the option at this point of taking a detour up to the top of the Rohnenspitze.  

As you descend the valley, you start entering into an area of low shrubs that then gives way to forest. Turn left at the intersectection with the dirt road and continue all the way down the zigzags to the ‘Katzensteig’.

Turn left again and follow the dirt road through an area of meadows until you arrive back in Schattwald.
