Sonnenkopf Skitourenrunde

The Sonnenkopf is a rather inconspicuous mountain when seen from the valley, but it is a popular destination for ski tourers. From its summit we enjoy an amazing panoramic view: to the west we have the entire Illertal valley at our feet, to the north the Grünten rises in front of us and to the east and south the Rotspitze and Großer Daumen form an impressive mountain backdrop. We do not choose the standard route for the ascent, which runs from the Hotel Sonnenklause across wide meadows in an almost direct line to the summit, but keep to the south and climb through the dense, quiet coniferous forest. For the descent we then choose the meadows north of the standard ascent route. This variant is just as beautiful and technically easy to ride, but a little less frequented. The tour ends with a stop at the restaurant of the Sonnenklause Hotel.
