For the 6th time, the marathon for mountain bikers starts in Pfronten (Allgäu). There are three MTB routes to choose from. The "Original Marathon Route" leads over the Edelsberg and the Vilstal, the Bärenmoosalpe and the Achtal as well as over the Breitenberg.

This route passes through an inaccessible area and is therefore closed. Current information

The marathon route (53 km, 1900 metres in altitude) runs from the valley station of the Breitenberg cable car first along the main road to the east to the first slight ascent of 110 metres in altitude. Then the route leads along the outskirts of Pfronten-Kappel. From there it is the first really long climb up towards Edelsberg, past the Kappeler Alm and the Böck sports centre to the Fichtelhütte(1525 m). This is followed by a long descent south towards Vilstal. After a few kilometres on the plain, the next ascent follows in the direction of Bärenmoosalpe. From the Himmelreich (1210 m) the route heads south again down into the Achtal and from there over the south side onto the Breitenberg to the top station of the chairlift (1670 m). The descent to the finish (850 m) is on a new forest path. The finish is at the Breitenbergbahn car park. The route is mainly composed of good forest roads as well as some asphalt paths and single trails.

Turn-by-turn directions

The start is at 12 noon at the Breitenbergbahn car park. On the cycle path next to the federal road B 309 you head east, after a few hundred metres before the old customs houses you have to turn right onto the field path. Then it goes up to under the cable car line of the Breitenbergbahn (approx. 110 hm). At the fork, we descend again to the right until we meet a tarred path. Here we turn left until just before the main road, there we keep to the left ("Krokusweg") and cycle to the car park at the ski lift. We cycle right over the bridge and immediately behind it left, then we follow the "Enzianstraße" to the intersection with the "Roseweg". There we turn right, cross the "Achtalstrasse" and meet the "Kienbergstrasse". We follow this until we reach the village pond, where we turn left onto the "Bläsesweg", which we follow until we reach the "Bläsismühle". We turn left onto the "Rappenschrofenweg" until we reach a wooden footbridge, turn right over the footbridge and then right again onto the "Vilstalstraße". At the junction we turn left up to Pfronten-Halden. Follow the "Edelsbergweg" in the direction of Pfronten-Kappel. At the end of the village, after a new development area, we turn left at the fork towards Pfronten-Kappel. There we cycle to the car park at the forest ropes course, where the ascent to the "Kappeler Alm" begins. We continue in the direction of "Sportheim Böck", then further towards Edelsberg to the "Fichtelhütte". Now a long descent awaits us in the direction of "Vilstal" (always stay on the main path). At the end of the descent, we turn left at the timber yard/livestock gate onto the Vilstal road in the direction of Pfronten (east). At the "well-known" wooden footbridge, we cycle right over it and then immediately left. After approx. 150 m we cycle up to the right in the direction of Himmelreich/Bärenmoos. At an altitude of approx. 1250 m, we take the turn-off down to the left and cycle in the direction of Achtal (difficult descent). We do not cycle right up to the Bärenmoosalpe!!! After the descent we turn left after the first bridge, then right after the second bridge. We continue along the cycle path until just before the border signs and then take the turnoff to the left up to the Breitenberg in the direction of the Ostlerhütte/mountain station chairlift (1680 m). From the chairlift, descend along the forest path to the already "familiar" fork under the cable car line, where you turn left in the direction of the valley station/finish.
