European Long Distance Trail E4 - German section from Bad Reichenhall to Oberallgäu
We opt for the easier of the two German E4 variants, which is nevertheless quite challenging, and hike through the foothills of the Alps. We start in Bad Reichhall and walk through the beautiful Berchtesgadener Land. From Ruhpolding, the E4 follows the same route as the Maximiliansweg and takes us through the mountainous Chiemgau Alps. The Hochfelln and the Hochgern lead us to Marquartstein and the famous Kampenwand. The constant ups and downs continue from Hohenaschau, over the Hochries and to Nußdorf am Inn in the valley of the same name. We cross the river and can take a short breather until we reach the nearby town of Brannenburg. But shortly after, more challenging trail sections await us via the Mitteralm and the Bockstein to Fischbachau. Now we circle the Hirschgeröhrkopf and hike past the Schliersee.
