Vorderburg Castle Ruin and Falkenstein
This circular trail offers impressive views of the Oberallgäu Alpine foothills and the Grünten. The Rottachspeicher reservoir can also be seen in the distance. The route is one of the easier hikes in the Allgäu, with steep sections in places. Narrow paths and nature trails lead us across flowery meadows and through forests along the Rottachberg (1115 m) to the Falkenstein, from where you can enjoy a view over the wide landscape. At the northern end of the Rottachberg we visit the ruins of Vorderburg Castle. These are the remains of Rettenberg Castle, which was once the seat of the Barons of Rettenberg and was destroyed by fire in 1562. Shortly after the ruins of Vorderburg Castle, we discover a pavilion that is a beautiful vantage point.
