Turn-by-turn directions
We start the tour in Breiten (1044 m) and follow the small street with the signage E4 upwards. If you came by car, you can drive until you reach the parking area (1). We continue on a paved road uphill and after half an hour reach the end of the street at the Bildstöckle (2) (1329 m). Now we follow the signage of the Maximiliansweg through the forest until we reach the Tiefenbacher Eck (3) (1525 m). This is a good spot to take a little break and enjoy the view of the Schneeferner Kopf in the east to the Säntis in the west.
From the Tiefenbacher Eck we hike across the Schlieberg (1569 m) down to the hut Karl-Hüller-Hütte (4) (1434 m). We stay on the long-distance path E4 and walk towards the Spießer-Summit (1651 m). We do not climb the summit, but walk around it in the south. Below the 1644 m high Hischberg we finally reach the alpine hut Hischalpe (5, TopTipp) (1493 m). Except the period mid of november until Christmas you get drinks, snacks and meals at the hut. In the middle of quaint mountain meadows we enjoy the view of the Iseler, the Widderstein and the Hoher Ifen in the Kleinwalsertal, the main ridge of the Allgäu alps with the Nebelhorn and the Hochvogel and the valley Tannheimer Tal with the summit Zugspitze.
After a good break we continue on the E4 east and over the Steinpass-Sattel (6) and reach the valley. Soon we leave the lift route of the Spieserlift 2 on our right and soon after the Spieserlift 1 is on our left. We reach Obergschwend, which belongs to Bad Hindelang, and B310. With the bus we return through Bad Hindelang back to Breiten.
